August 2019

Welcome to my classroom! I am so excited to be here and to teach your children. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I graduated from Ritzville High School. I received my education degree from Washington State University. This is my twenty third year of teaching. I previously taught special education for 8 years and am now teaching my fifteenth year of 5th grade. I was awarded Teacher of the Month through KHQ and Eastern Washington University in December of 2009. I love my job! I have two children, Carlie (23) and Jackson (19). My husband, Tom, farms and ranches. I enjoy spending as much time as I can with my family.

Just a quick bit of information you should know. I will be teaching all of the math and social studies this year, while Mrs. Ballance will be teaching all of the science and whole group reading and language arts.  This will be a great opportunity for me to meet and teach all of the 5th graders and a great opportunity for your child to get the best of both of us.

Your child will be bringing home an assignment book/agenda. This will tell you what we are working on in class and if they have homework or not. Your child should have minimal homework if he/she uses his/her class time well.  I will sign them off before they can go home. I do not require parent signature but it is greatly appreciated and very beneficial. If homework should become a problem, then I will require that you sign their assignment book. This is my way of communicating to you on a daily basis.

I hope you know that you can contact me anytime with questions or concerns you might have regarding your child. I will do my best to accommodate you and your child. My work # is 725 1261. My email address is jsorensen@davenportsd.org. This is a quick and easy way to contact me.

Thank you. I am looking forward to a successful and productive year!
