Here is a very cool video of the KECK OBSERVATORY and the Mauna Kea complex of observatories.  Follow this link; Mauna Kea Keck Lasers
Yes, it is real. Yes, you can really see the lasers. The dark area that has brighter "stars" shining through is our galaxy, the Milky Way.

The power of a few zeros -

1,000,000 - one million seconds ago = about 11 days ago.

1,000,000,000 - one billion seconds ago = just over 31 years ago.

1,000,000,000,000 - one trillion seconds ago = just over 31,700 years ago

Please don't worry if you don't see a grade/assignment posted right away.  The due date is the day I enter the grades. In the description of the assignment, I will put the actual due date that the assignment should have been turned in.
I am still learning all the quirks of the system.  I am also trying to implement more skills and standards based assignments and grades so that students and parents have a better idea of what is being taught and learned. Grades will be based on both completion of assignments and activities as well as ongoing assessments of skills and standards demonstrated.  There are three categories, "Materials," "Chapter assignments," and "Learning Targets."
Materials is 10% of the grade and includes points for having assignments in class and turned in on time.  Participation is also factored into Materials.
Chapter Assignments include vocab and worksheets and is worth 10%.
Learning Targets are worth 80% of the grade and are based on assessments, projects and specific assignments that show students are able to demonstrate a specific skill or concept.

Email is a great way to contact me, however and let me know which phone number to use to if you want me to call you back. You can also call the office and leave a message with Mrs. Abbott.  She will get it to me as quickly as she can.
I try to check my email each morning, lunch and after school.
